Creating a CNAME record for each of the domain addresses or subdomains you have in the hosting account will permit you to redirect it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded domain name will lose all its records - A, MX etc, and will take the records of the Internet domain it is being pointed to. In this light, you simply can't set up a CNAME record to redirect your domain to a third-party provider and maintain a working e-mail service with the first hosting company. Also, it is important to note that a CNAME record is always a string of words rather than a number because it is regularly mistaken for the A record of the domain being redirected. One of the primary uses of a CNAME record is to forward a domain you own through one provider to the servers of some other provider in case you have created an Internet site with the latter. That way, the Internet site will appear under your own domain address, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.

CNAME Records in Web Hosting

In case you have a web hosting plan through our company and you want to set up a CNAME record, it will take you just a few mouse clicks to get it done. You can access the DNS records for all domains and subdomains hosted in your account through the Hepsia Control Panel that comes with every single plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, selecting the type, that will be CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the modification. If you've never added this sort of record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial that you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we'll help you with this task. If you have created a website via another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you want to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different provider, for instance Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a couple of clicks within your Control Panel.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with every one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will permit you to create a CNAME record without difficulty. When you want to create a private URL for your emails, to point a domain address to a subdomain inside the account or to forward a domain name to another company and use some third-party service that they provide, it will not require more than 3 clicks to set up this type of record. All DNS records for the domains and subdomains hosted in the semi-dedicated account will be listed in a separate section in the Control Panel, so once you are there, all you will have to do will be to pick the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then enter the actual record text. For your convenience, you can see a short video in the Control Panel on how to set up a CNAME record or you can refer to the instructions in the help article, which is available in the DNS records section.
