Whenever you add a domain as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that particular service provider. On their end, three records are created automatically right after the domain name is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the Internet domain where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that manages the emails for that specific Internet domain. The site and the email hosting are usually considered to be one thing, while they're in reality two different services. Having independent records for them will allow you to have them with different providers if you wish. For example, some new provider might have excellent uptime for your site, but you may not want to switch your e-mail messages from your current host and by employing an A record to point the domain name to the former and MX records to have the emails with the second, you will get the best of both companies. These records are checked whenever you want to open a site or send an email - in either case, the service provider whose name servers are used for the domain will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you're going to see the needed site or your email will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting from us, you are going to be able to view, set up and change any A or MX record for your domain names. As long as a given Internet domain has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to change specific records by using our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or e-mails pointed to another company if you wish to use only one of our services. Our leading-edge tool will allow you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain name the slightest bit. If you decide to use the email services of another service provider and they want you to create more than 2 MX records, you can easily do this with only a few clicks within the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You may also set different latency for every single MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan from us, you'll be able to view and edit the A and MX records for any one of the domains or subdomains you host in the account. The Hepsia CP, which you'll get to control the account, offers an state-of-the-art, although easy-to-use tool in which all hosts will be listed in alphabetical order and you're going to be able to change their records with no more than several mouse clicks. If you have to set up a new record, it'll be just as easy - choose the domain/subdomain, enter the IP address or mail server record and you are going to be all set. You'll also be able to set different priority for the MX records which you create in case you decide to use a third-party e-mail provider and they ask you to set up additional records apart from the 2 standard ones. If you encounter any troubles, we have a comprehensive Help section with videos in which you can see first-hand how to setup or change any record.
